A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in Prague

Prague, Czech Republic

Enjoy open-air theatrics in Prague as the works of William Shakespeare are performed. The Summer Shakespeare Festival is the oldest and biggest open-air theater festival in Europe. The festival opens on June 25th and runs through September 3rd.

If you are in Nice and want to check out this time-honored festival, you can do so by train. Take the TGV from Nice to Paris, then hop aboard the Thalys from Paris to Cologne, and finally, take a City Night Line train from Cologne to Prague. The last segment is an overnight train, so after your day of travel, you will arrive in Prague the next morning, refreshed and ready for Shakespeare. With the comfort and ease European rail travel provides, it leaves you believing that there really is Much Ado About Nothing!

To get from central Paris to Versailles, take the RER train on the C line to Versailles-Rive Gauge station. Not all trains go to Versailles-Rive Gauge station – you should use only trains with the train name starting with a “V” or with the line number C5. It’s about a 5 minute walk from the Versailles-Rive Gauge station to the Palace of Versailles, and there are signs along the way that you can follow.

Monet’s gardens are located in Giverny. To get to Giverny from Paris, take the train to Vernon. Once in Vernon, you have a few options. Some travelers take a bus to Giverny, some take a taxi, and there are some folks who prefer to rent a bike and ride to the gardens. If it’s a nice day, the bike ride is a great idea. In all, the trip to Giverny from Paris will take you about an hour and a half. The gardens will be open through October.
